Symbol of Fashion and fucking Excitement?

A friend of mine recently provoked the following email which have been adjusted into a post cause it's relevant.

I think it's fun and okay for you to party...to live life while young...I wish I can have the time to experience it myself... but something disgust me about you /some of the teenagers .... I really think that one should not be wearing his/her crucifix when she/he is calling her/himself a slut or partying hard because it then becomes a fashion accessory...

Also, it's one thing to be having your 'vices' it's another altogether to have it while in full declaration of your faith and believes which totally oppose it...the difference being somewhat like fucking another guy quietly at your husband's back and strapping your husband down and fucking another guy in full view of him.

Let Jesus remain a symbol of Christ love and not a symbol of fashion and definitely don't mock him by having him there and crucifying all he stood for.Hence why I don't wear a cross though I m Catholic from birth...I am still waiting till I am ready.

Is not wearing a cross, then, an excuse to not follow the words of the Christ?

dear penny...don't throw them...but don't treat them as fashion but a symbol of faith...kenny, I guess we all have our vices and time when we visit our dark side but outwardly wearing a big cross and then doing these things is like not just going against the words but mocking the words...in my opinion...

frankly, even non-Christians now wear crosses; crosses of odd designs, different colours, at different parts of their body (there are even shirts).
there are crosses with the gothic and develish element within (at least that's what i feel when they're wearing them on)

during those months when i depressed, i used to wear a cross for courage...that faith to hold on to life and walk on the path of life.
i don't make a good christian myself, but i don't expect others to see others misusing the symbol of Christ's Love too.

thanks for writing the article, this has been on my mind quite some time now, that utmost disapointment i feel whenever most of my friends wear them. Contradictorily, they dread the idea of going to church, shunning that with words of disgust like "ahhh, dun talk jesus with me" ...or "hell...church is boring-lar"
*sighs*

it's alright when you're wearing the cross as a declaration of faith. after all, God loves acts and public declarations of faith, hence the necessary act of baptism. but it's just blasphemy when people make it a fashion, a fad, a trend. it disgusts me when i see rap stars rapping or singing about pimping, bedding every woman with a nice booty, drugs, swearing, murder...and they have a huge jewelled cross on their chest. like it's just "bling bling". it's not.

My first visit to your site =) Yes, this post caught my eye and I agree whole heartedly. I notice people in clubs/ah lians wear those allll the time....those glittery, decorative ones too...it not only denounces the symbol of our religion, it also creates a mockery out of it. Maybe I'm being a tad overboard, who knows?
But yes, I have a blessed crucifix but I don't wear it either.

religion is and will always be a sensitive issue. first things first. who are you to judge this person? it states in the bible that god will be the judge. not you. it also says in the bible, do not use God's name in vain. all of you proclaim yourselves a christian. do you know what being a christian is about? you can swear, have sex before marriage, smoke etc etc. how does that potray you as a christian? you don't practice christianity. why judge someone who wears a cross? does wearing a cross really make us a bigger sinner than you are? isn't proclaiming yourself a christian but you don't act like one, mocking his name all the same? there is no such thing as a big sin or a small sin. i smoke, curse, lie etc etc. but i don't go around judging other christians. i wear a cross, not because i want to 'crucify' all he has stood for. i may not be a strong christian, by faith and by knowledge. but i've been one long enough to know that as long as i'm not him, i have no right to judge wether someone is a good christian or not.

Ashley...

sorry if I was judgemental in giving my opinion in which I feel that a friend should leave her cross.

I don't smoke or drink and seldom go to nightclubs...at last count 3 times this year, all to work...I do events as well as commercials. I think money's better spend elsewhere...I say I wish to have the time to experience it as all experiences enriches but seriously....how can one live with himself knowing there is a poor and pay ridiculous sums on something as mere as a drink? is there no other fun?

Friends who know me would attest to the fact that I hardly swear. I am not trying to be holier than thou...I have my failings and as I said...I am not ready.

coming back to the matter...seriously you don't think that it be more sinful when you scream 'I am a christian' while sinning? or would you at least show some remorse and be quiet...not having the cross is quiet...having it is a scream.please let me know if you'd agree or shall we let God be the judge of that.

ok.maybe you didn't understand what i was trying to say. no wait, you OBVIOUSLY did not understand what i was trying to say. it doesn't matter if someone screams it or not. you proclaimed yourself a christian on your blog. is THAT keeping quiet?! i mean wow... that is so subtle compared to wearing a cross isn't it.. O_o you are a hypocrite. you just confirmed that in your reply. by proclaiming, in your post, that he/she 'disgusts' you with her actions and how we 'sinning cross wearers' are bigger sinners than you are, you are bluntly saying that you ARE holier than thou. that whole reply explaining how good you are, is obviously trying to explain again, you are holier than thou. me saying you smoke, curse etc etc is an EXAMPLE. are you seriously asking me to choose between agreeing with you or letting god decide? on what grounds? that we cross wearers shouldn't scream 'i am christian' when we're out partying and drinking? so is it ok if we wear it at home while reading the bible? O_o you are the type of people that all outsiders hate about the church. hypocritical christians. are YOU not a sinner? are YOU showing remorse and being quiet? how do you show that? by calling others, sinners? no wait, BIGGER sinners???? anyway, i hope you're making yourself feel better by thinking that way. lightens the burdens of your 'smaller' sins doesnt it? this gonna be my last reply. coz there really won't be a point explaining anymore to you. you obvously made your mind up.

Ashley'the monkey' or so I presume you to be...

Face it...we all judge each other, I judged a friend you judged me...

Also this world is full of contradictions and there is no clear right or wrong but in my opinion you are wrong and in your opinion I am wrong...fine.

I am a so called hypocrite...I hope I find salvation. Good that you feel good drinking (poisoning the temple) while wearing a cross...bravo!!!!!I hope you find salvation.No...Let's hope we find salvation...happy?

Oohhh wow...getting your reply is the highlight of my day...yeah right...who the HELL do you think you are?

What I always thought was that the crucifix I wear around my neck was to remind me that I was christian. Not to proclaim to others that I am christian. For that makes it all sound rather proud and as I last recall pride was one of the sins.

I'm sorry to disappoint you but your post is about as condescending as they come. You mock others. This is not the 'christian- attitude'. Don't hate the sinner, hate the sin. You think that it is bad to wear a cross while you're out clubbing/drinking/doing-whatever-you-consider-a-sin. Fine. Don't wear the cross then, but where do you come in telling off someone that they are wrong to do so?

"how can one live with himself knowing there is a poor and pay ridiculous sums on something as mere as a drink?"

Please don't speak like all you eat is salted fish and rice so you can save costs and spend all that excess money for food for the vagabonds you chance upon walking around.

Yes, it's to remind ourselves...so wouldn't a small cross in a pocket do? or a small one at your heart concealled by your shirt. why a big glittery one then? Sorry but I feel a big glittery one exposed when you are out partying wild is just plain old showy and a no-no.

As for eating rice and salted fish...you are again getting me wrong...I am making an extreme point of comparison as to demonstrate the irony of such actions as drinking...No I am not a saint nor an extreme pilantrophist...just a person going about my regular whatever speaking up a little to illustrate a different view.

This is not the 'christian- attitude'. Don't hate the sinner, hate the sin.

The post is an email for a friend...after I wrote it to her...I felt it was written in a prose slightly cynical and harsh so I called her and said sorry but I really feel that way.Must I censor my words on my own blog? I didn't identify her as to mock her but yeah...doing a sin is one thing...doing it and labelling oneself a slut proudly is something but doing it with full identification or declaration of faith is definately icky for me.

Hope you get it...

Regards.

i personally don't find the slightest difference in having a cross around one's neck or concealing it in one's pocket. Basically you made it sound like the whole church/christ whatever lives in the cross that people are wearing instead where he should be is inside the heart. No where else.

It should never matter on how one would want to proclaim his/her faith to others, be it wearing super blink blink crosses around their necks and all cause from the start we're already made sinners. Whether do you want to hang a cross around you, you're fucked.... or putting a cross inside your pocket, you too are fucked. one may not be swearing but fucking, one may not kill but is suicidal, one may not be partying looking at endless boobs but is jerking off to some porn. So how in the world are we going to go heaven knowing for a fact it's a place for sinless people. please help if any has answers. *fallen christian waves*

"seriously you don't think that it be more sinful when you scream 'I am a christian' while sinning? or would you at least show some remorse and be quiet...not having the cross is quiet...having it is a scream." It's probably like seeing a hot chick with a super deep longkang walking and you shout at the top of your lungs "damnnnn you're tEh Sexxeeee" while having lustful impure thoughts on wanting to bone her. or.......... could u at least down a chill pill and have a cup of shut the fuck up while just imagining the whole styling in your head. Doesnt matter does it? there are still adulterous thoughts being harbored. Probably the only difference is whether the chick would scream as well when u shout.. or just float by if u keep it quiet. Either way.... HELL!
